Effects of Analysis Delay on pH, pO2, pCO2, Bicarbonate, Glucose, Lactate, Electrolytes, and Other Arterial Blood Gas Variables

Background: One of the preanalytical factors that can affect the results of arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis is the time from sample collection to analysis. A delay in analysis may affect the results due to factors such as ongoing cellular metabolism within the blood sample, gas exchange between the blood sample and the environment, and temperature changes. ABG analysis can be delayed for various

Unveiling chemomechanical degradation in aqueous batteries with online acoustic emission sensing

Online acoustic emission (AE) sensing is a promising nondestructive technique for battery health monitoring. Herein, we report on the ability of AE sensing to differentiate among different chemomechanical degradation events in a TiS2-based model aqueous chemistry. Short and high-frequency AE signals primarily stem from fracture-related degradation of TiS2, such as layer delamination, exfoliation,

Deep Learning–Based Retinoblastoma Protein Subtyping of Pulmonary Large-Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma on Small Hematoxylin and Eosin–Stained Specimens

Molecular subtyping of pulmonary large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (LCNEC) based on retinoblastoma protein (pRb) expression may influence systemic treatment decisions. Current histomorphologic assessments of hematoxylin and eosin–stained tissue samples cannot reliably differentiate LCNEC molecular subtypes. This study explores the potential of deep learning (DL) to identify histologic patterns t

Facing the unexpected : a literature review on methods for assessing organizational adaptive capacity

Organizations may be confronted with both expected and unexpected events that challenge their abilities to provide these services uninterrupted. Traditional strategies based on anticipation and planning are primarily useful for expected events, but for unexpected events, organizations must develop capacities to adapt to situations and conditions not foreseen. As systems and societies are becoming

Did cities increase skills during industrialization? Evidence from rural-urban migration

The process of industrialization is typically associated with urbanization and a large urban-rural gap in productivity and skills. To what extent were these disparities driven by the direct impact on occupational attainment of living in an urban area or the result of the positive self-selection of migrants moving to cities? In this paper, we leverage exceptional Swedish longitudinal data that allo
