Multiplexing efficiency of multiple antenna systems
Multiplexing efficiency is proposed as a simple and intuitive metric for characterizing multiple antenna systems in the spatial multiplexing mode of operation. Instead of comparing channel capacities of MIMO systems with different antennas, the metric offers valuable insights into the impact of antenna efficiency, efficiency imbalance and correlation on multiplexing performance. It is particularly
The Role of Courses in PhD Education at the Faculty of Engineering, Lund University
This study investigates the role of courses in PhD programmes. It compares five different research groups’ views at the Faculty of Engineering, Lund University, Sweden. The views of supervisors vs. doctoral students are further contrasted.
Assignment of the human gene for beta-microseminoprotein (MSMB) to chromosome 10 and demonstration of related genes in other vertebrates
The gene for beta-microseminoprotein MSMB has been studied by DNA hybridization and molecular cloning techniques. Comparative analysis of restriction endonuclease digests of the cloned gene and of leukocyte DNA strongly suggested that the gene is present in a single copy in the haploid human genome. By Southern blot analysis of DNA from somatic cell hybrids, the gene was assigned to chromosome 10.

Supported Lipid Bilayer Formation and Lipid-Membrane-Mediated Biorecognition Reactions Studied with a New Nanoplasmonic Sensor Template
This paper presents the use of the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) sensor concept to probe the formation of macroscopic and laterally mobile supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) on SiOx-encapsulated nanohole-containing Au and Ag films. A comparison between Au- and Ag-based sensor templates demonstrates a higher sensitivity for Au-based templates with respect to both bulk and interfacial refr

The article investigates the development of higher degree freemasonry in eighteenth century Sweden and proposes a periodization.
Placa de ateroma da bifurcacao carotidea: como identificar a lesao "activa"?
The identification of carotid atheromatous plaques associated to a higher neurologic risk may be important in therapeutic decision making for asymptomatic patients and symptomatic patients with 50%-70% stenosis. The introduction of high-definition ultrasonography (HDU) and computer-assisted image analysis provides the possibility of a standard, objective and detailed characterization of the struct
Analysis of the interaction of Aeromonas caviae, A. hydrophila and A. sobria with mucins
Aeromonas species are known to be involved in human gastrointestinal diseases. These organisms colonize the gastrointestinal tract. Aeromonas hydrophila, A. caviae, and A. sobria have been demonstrated microscopically to adhere to animal cell lines that express mucous receptors, but quantitative studies of adherence to mucosal components such as mucin have not been published to date. Purified bovi

FE-formulation of a nonlocal plasticity theory
A nonlocal continuum plasticity theory is presented. The nonlocal field introduced here is defined as a certain weighted average of the corresponding local field, taken over all the material points in the body. Hereby, a quantity with the dimension of length occurs as a material parameter. When this so-called internal length is equal to zero, the local classical plasticity theory is regained. In t

Streams of words: hydrological lexicon in Jahai
This article investigates hydrological lexicon in Jahai, a Mon-Khmer language of the Malay Peninsula. Setting out from an analysis of the structural and semantic properties as well as the indigenous vs. borrowed origin of lexicon related to drainage, it teases out a set of distinct lexical systems for reference to and description of hydrological features. These include (1) indigenous nominal label
Perceptions of socioeconomic integration of middle eastern immigrants in Europe : comparing national discourses and subjective experiences
This panel compares the subjective understanding of success and socioeconomic mobility of immigrants from the Middle East in Europe with national discourses of integration. Despite the abundance of research on Middle Eastern migrants in Europe, not much is known about their subjective understanding of their socioeconomic positions and experience with social mobility. Much of the research looks at
Distributed generation with voltage control capability in the low voltage network
Abstract in UndeterminedSmall-scale distributed generators connected tothe low voltage network are generally operated with unitypower factor. However, controlling their reactive powerinjection would have an impact on the voltage at theirconnection point, if the network is sufficiently weak andinductive. The purpose of this paper is to investigate how asmall-scale distributed generator connected to
