A multi-scaling approach showing a transient metabolic mismatch in a freshwater fish (Zingel asper) during an acute heat stress

Heat stress events will be more frequent and intense in the future. These events will challenge the capacity of organisms to exhibit sufficient metabolic flexibility to adapt to such variations. To better understand the acclimation processes implemented in response to acute warming, with an integrative approach we examined in vivo metabolic rate and cardiac mitochondrial respiration in the Rhône s

What Happened to the Incomes of the Rich during the Great Levelling? Evidence from Swedish Individual-Level Data, 1909–1950

We use individual-level income data from archived taxation lists to study top-income earners in Sweden from 1909 to 1950. Using information on 21,055 individual taxpayers in two elite areas in greater Stockholm, we show that top incomes fell in real terms over this period, at a stable pace without obvious connection to the Great Depression or the world wars. The peak of inequality was related to tWe use individual-level income data from archived taxation lists to study top-income earners in Sweden from 1909 to 1950. Integrative taxonomy, phylogeny and distribution patterns of the diverse Neotropical cloud forest butterfly genus Perisama Doubleday (Nymphalidae, Biblidinae, Callicorini)

Phylogenetic relationships of the predominantly Andean species-rich nymphalid genus Perisama are explored based on five genetic markers and a total of 3719 bps, and morphological characters of the adults with an emphasis on male genitalia and wing colour patterns. Its monophyly is recovered by including the genera Orophila, which turns out polyphyletic, and Mesotaenia. Two main, highly supported c

Patient choice and socioeconomic disparities in the quality of healthcare : Evidence from Swedish registry data

This study explores socioeconomic disparities in how patients trade off quality against other features when choosing their primary care provider. We use a unique registry dataset linking the choices of individuals who recently moved to a new market, and therefore need to select a new provider, with detailed individual-level measures of socioeconomic status (SES) and provider-level measures of pati

Persistent increase of Nogo-A-positive cells and dynamic reduction in oligodendroglia lineage cells in white matter regions following experimental and clinical traumatic brain injury

White matter (WM) disruption and atrophy is a consequence of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and contributes to persisting cognitive impairment. An increased expression of the myelin-associated axonal outgrowth inhibitor Nogo-A and oligodendrocyte pathology might be negatively associated with postinjury WM changes. Here, we analyzed brain tissue from severe TBI patients, obtained by surgical decompre

Bilayer orthogonal ferromagnetism in CrTe2-based van der Waals system

Systems with pronounced spin anisotropy are pivotal in advancing magnetization switching and spin-wave generation mechanisms that are fundamental to spintronic technologies. Quasi-van der Waals ferromagnets like Cr1+δTe2 represent seminal materials in this field, renowned for their delicate balance between frustrated layered geometries and magnetism. Despite extensive investigation, the nature of

Characterization of Portable Ultra-Low Field MRI Scanners for Multi-Center Structural Neuroimaging

The lower infrastructure requirements of portable ultra-low field MRI (ULF-MRI) systems have enabled their use in diverse settings such as intensive care units and remote medical facilities. The UNITY Project is an international neuroimaging network harnessing this technology, deploying portable ULF-MRI systems globally to expand access to MRI for studies into brain development. Given the wide ran

Charge carrier dynamics controlling performance of lead-based halide perovskite solar cells

We review our studies to assess charge carrier dynamics inside a perovskite film and interfacial charge transfer dynamics for a perovskite layer sandwiched by an electron transporting layer (ETL) such as TiO2 compact or mesoporous layer and a hole transporting layer (HTL) such as spiro-OMeTAD. Both electron and hole injection occur faster than electron-hole recombination inside a perovskite film,

Employee diversity and environmental innovation : the roles of gender, nationality, and education

This paper investigates the roles of employee diversity for environmental innovations in firms. Utilizing firm-level survey data on environmental innovations and employer–employee register data, we construct measures of employee diversity across education, nationality, and gender for over 6500 Swedish firms. We argue, grounded in the Lundvall–Johnson conceptualization of knowledge, that the positi

Gene expression-based identification of prognostic markers in lung adenocarcinoma

Introduction Many studies have aimed at identifying additional prognostic tools to guide treatment choices and patient surveillance in lung cancer by assessing the expression of individual proteins through immunohistochemistry (IHC) or, more recently, through gene expression-based signatures. As a proof-of-concept, we used a multi-cohort, gene expression-based discovery and validation strategy to

This source would ideally not negatively impose on the environment and its ecology. This is one of the Swedish environment quality goals, to minimize the environmental impact of the drinking water extraction. Vombsjön is a drinking water source lake in southern Swe-den, supplying 25% of Skåne county with wa

Representations of Graphs and Their Impact on Graph Neural Networks

Dessa består av tabeller där varje datapunkt ärGraph Neural Networks (GNNs) are increasingly used for predictive tasks on data where relationships between entities are best represented as graphs. Much work has been done to improve GNN architectures, but how the ac- tual data graph should be designed is not well studied. In this Master’s Thesis, we investigate how different graph representations, specifically node classification and link predic

Using SILMAS to improve machine learning-assisted quantification of pathology

In this study, we investigate the benefits of using structured illumination light-sheet microscopy with axial sweeping (SILMAS) in the context of neural network-assisted quantification of pathology in volumetric data. A bottleneck for training a neural network is the availability of manually labeled training data that adequately covers the variance in unseen samples, allowing the network to correc

Enhancing Photothermal Therapy Against Breast Cancer Cells by Modulating the End Point of Gold Shell-Isolated Nanoparticles Using Nanostraw-Assisted Injection

Gold shell-isolated nanoparticles (AuSHINs) are promising photothermal therapy (PTT) agents for cancer treatment due to their excellent photoconversion efficiency, biocompatibility, colloidal stability, and tunable properties, including size, shape, and surface functionalization. However, their therapeutic efficacy in in vitro assays is often limited by poor cellular uptake and lysosomal entrapmen
